... i'm thinking about getting her tattoo on my arm ...

it's rare that a game..
..brings me to tears in its opening credits.
...
but...
it happened.
mirror's edge is that beautiful.
...
and...
it's sick that...
i started playing this game now...
because,
it feels as though i'm channeling my...
suicidal desire to jump off a,
very tall building,
...into the game.
...
i get a sadistic thrill every time i die.

i bought this game for my mom, last, last, mother's day.
a game i thought she'd enjoy, because it reminded me of uncle boots.
...
she never played it.
...
this weekend while i was home, i picked it up.
dusted it off, and started it.
...
it was the only thing that kept me anywhere close to sane.
...and like everything i love, i became obsessed with it.
i couldn't put it down.
...
and i just beat it, an hour ago.
and have to say.
...
wow.

you would never expect this to be as great a game as it is.
the ending, although predictable in the last three hours,
is nothing short of adorable, tear-jerking, and fantastically satisfying.
...
you would never expect a puzzle game, to have an actual, plot,
with actual well-animated almost-european-styled-anime-ish cutscenes.
...
thank god they are making a sequel.
the world needs more games like this.
....
....
....
and more importantly.
this type of game. teaches you. shows you. how to reason through logic and sometimes, math-related dilemmas.
....
....
i feel like,
in ten years, with a better touch screen sensitive, stylus gesturing recognizing,
handheld device....
....
i feel like,
who needs public schools, teachers, .... ....endless fucking torment, and general misplaced hate towards learning....
....
when i could be taught, history, math, science, art, philosophy, etc,
...through intricately woven stories, with stop-start quizzes / trivia / facts scattered throughout...
this game,
has single-handedly,
changed my perspective towards all the, fucks, i had to deal with,
who tagged on Christopher Hoadley's heels, and every word,
and majored in Instructional Information Systems,
and created the most god-awful videogames that were intended to,
teach students or handicapped people,
anything.
maybe it can be done....
maybe...
...
...
my mind is blown.
....
....
....
....
my mom and i had a moment,
while i was playing it....
.....i was stuck on a puzzle,
and she was walking past me, "alright i'm going to go bed".
"wait, help, i'm stuck on this."
the puzzle. to the best of my recollection.
"how many times does a digital clock have three identical numbers in sequence over the course of a 24 hour day?
(not on military time)"
so, the illustrated example it gives is, 03:33...
......
we had fun figuring it out together.
i'm too drunk to word it any differently.
suffice it to say,
i disagreed with her answer, tried my own, and failed,
tried hers, and it was right, and it was....
a moment..
...
the answer is not 44. but close.
... can you figure it out?
................. my mom is smarter than she acts ................

so i have a confession to make..
May. 31st, 2009 | 02:26 pm
mood: inspired
i have a new vice to add, to my already long list of,
bad habits.
... i've become something of a twitter-holic.
yeah, okay....
i'm going to write about twitter.
...twitter makes me sick.
before i go any further, i should say,
i am in total agreement with these videos.
...
but that said....
...
...remember when, the internet just came out...
...and computer geeks, like me, rushed to learn html,
just to learn how to put together a crude, and incredibly dorky, homepage?
...maybe to show off, what books we liked, what games we were playing,
....or maybe just to play around with that amazing jumping red exclamation point...
......remember how,
bullies, jocks, and, anyone outside that techsphere,
looked down on us. made fun of us for it. or worse.
............remember when, aol came out.
... the birth of AIM and profile pages.
remember how all the girls suddenly had both, glitsy profiles, and aol pages?
how, it suddenly became cool to,
maintain a web presence, that likely, 0.0000000000000000000000001% of the world would ever actually look at.
twitter's a lot like that.
suddenly, every person in the entire world,
is deluded, by the ease of 140 character micro-blogging,
into thinking that people out there, anyone out there,
gives a shit about their every move and thought.
it's, shouting, into an abyss.
it's, futile, it's stupid, it's, vain,
and it's....
....incredible.
it's incredible, that it is so popular.
incredible, that on some level,
this inner self, that we all have.
this, being, that is constantly thrashing, and clawing,
this, self that seeks to establish itself in such an enormous world, and infinitely vast universe...
this ego. this, "IT".
IT, becomes visible.
................
not everyone owns a blog.
this is because,
a) not everyone can write
b) not everyone believes they're capable of writing something anyone else would give a damn about
c) sitting down, to write a blog entry. a well-thought out, coherent, post. takes time.
.................
twitter lures / deludes people into thinking that the three hindrances to blogging, don't exist.
...on some level...
...i can't be friends with anyone that isn't reflective on their thoughts, actions, doings...
...introspection... on any level... is a, fundamental requirement, for me to even acknowledge, existence.
......without introspection,
we're nothing but copulating apes. or worse. dogs.
dogs, under the control of seen and unseen forces beyond our control.
... but dogs don't care as long as they're fed, and pet ...
the vast majority of people, are sheep.
...twitter is incredible, because it exposes, your thought.
and it exposes what you care about.
.........
.........
and it's the start. the dawn of something. beautiful.
....
i should, take a step back, and say,
i don't look down on any person's tweets.
i don't look down on anyone that uses twitter, both fanatically, and casually.
i don't look down on corporate giants that pay individuals to tweet the everyday doings of celebrities.
there is something greater at work here.
there is an amassing of data. there is.
...
at the core, there is, a fundamental, critical mass that has been passed,
a critical mass that says, "yes, i will use a web application to tell the world about my everyday life and interests."
this. .... this....
is important, fascinating, and a mind-blowing achievement for mankind as a whole.
...........
...........
i am a twitterholic, because i'm a rare breed of twitter-user.
....
i'll be the first to admit that i don't have any friends. and that twitter, on some level...
...... most of its core, fanatical users... are starved for attention and friends.
....
i am a twitterholic,
because... i am observant, by nature...
i am curious, inquisitive, and ... cynical, by nature... and, beyond sheltered.
....
i feel i use twitter, like a personal museum of humanity.
... i want to believe that, on the whole, humanity is filled with,
artistic, interesting, and fascinating people.
....
i would like to share with you, how i use twitter.

....
you may disagree with the labels, and my, somewhat, twisted manner of classifying people...
but the underlying fact is that,
...... i want,
a bird's eye, overhead view, of, everyone that has crossed my path / anyone that i find interesting...
and this, tweetdeck and twitter, are one giant step in that direction.
already, twitter has enriched my life.
how? i found a 'twibe' for photography.
i found a number of photographers, who, use their twitter as an exhibition,
showcasing their favorite new photo, using twitpic.
...
that's inspiring. that's motivating. it's great to see, what other people are doing, and even more interesting to monitor their progress towards further greatness.
...
and,
i stumbled on, a man by the name of, john calacanis,
who has started his own show entitled "this week in startups" (twist)
http://thisweekinstartups.com/
...
and, the first person he interviewed, a former co-worker of his.
is brilliant. and built something, eerily equivalent, and better, than the suite of tools that constituted the work that i did on my master's thesis.
...the point is.
twitter connects me, to people that are greater, and more brilliant than myself.
twitter elevates my thought.
twitter raises my awareness, of what is current, what people are doing, where technology is headed.
... this is the future ...
but it doesn't stop with twitter.
.....................
i've already hit the limit of what tweetdeck can do.
for instance, my classification of 'photography' falls flat,
because, people, are people, and do not solely focus on what topic, what ontological classification i decide to fit them into.
.... autumn_meadows is not talking about photography ... she is ranting about rush limbaugh....
the short term, is obviously a new application,
which sorts incoming tweets both by people classifications, #shouts, and text-parsing of the tweet itself...
....i'm sure, someone is working on this, and if not, i will be....
the long term.....
what i envision. want. yearn for.
is the day when we are all wearing, a device that records our every move and conversations,
and posts it to the world to experience...
the day when everyone is connected, everyone sees all, everyone................
....in the meantime, i'm content to connect the dots along the way.......
